vy ion physics is one of the most active growth areas of nuclear physics, and this conference was devoted to several fields of particular interest, including nuclear molecules, the nuclear spectroscopy of very deformed nuclei, the mechanism of medium-energy heavy-ion reactions, high-energy heavy-ion collisions and effects of supercritical fields, and the decay of the vacuum. These are all providing a rich variety of information on nuclear reaction mechanisms and on the structures of the interacting nuclei.
